How a RotaCut helps a food waste AD plant

The Brocklesby AD plant is fed with 92,000 tonnes food soup from the adjacent edible oil recovery plant, Brocklesby Oil, as well as blood and glycerol from nearby food manufacturers.

After the waste food has been through the oil extraction facility adjacent, it is pumped to the biogas plant as a food soup at temperatures as high as 45°C; the AD plant currently uses 13 Vogelsang VX rotary lobe pumps to move the soup and resulting digestate around the site.

The plant uses a Vogelsang RotaCut macerator after the pre-storage tank and before the digester. The RotaCut cuts the feedstock particles down to below 10mm in size before it goes into the digester.

Karl Rayworth, Operations Manager for IMS, said: “The RotaCut is a brilliant addition to our line here are Brocklesby. The extra maceration the feedstock receives keeps it running smoothly and helps the bacteria to digest and produce gas. The smaller particle size helps our digestate meet PAS110 standards.

We’ve found each piece of equipment to be tough and reliable We’ve found each piece of equipment to be tough and reliable machinery’s ability to ‘get on with it’ and provide an effective and reliable feed system in one complete unit.

The digestate is spread to land. AWSM Farming are contracted to take it and spread it to land.
We’ve found each piece of equipment to be touch and reliable, and when we need spare parts or assistance, they are with us quickly.
