How the PreMix helps one ambitious AD plant with its crop and manure feedstock
About the plant
Dedicated to producing sustainable energy to run its business park in Exeter, local company
Greendale has built a 1.3MW AD plant which is operated by Willowglen Renewables. This processes farm crops and livestock manure into biogas and bio fertiliser.
The biogas is then used to produce electricity for the Business Park, while the bio fertiliser is used on the farmland in place of fossil fuel-derived fertilisers.
Willowglen was keen to feed more manure in the digester and less crop, and an investigation into how best to do that led the operators to Vogelsang.
Solution

The plant operators discovered that a lot of AD sites in the UK all had one thing in common; they all used Vogelsang machinery.
They worked with Vogelsang to install a PreMix 4-in-1 feed system that macerates and blends the mixture of cattle waste and crops to make it pumpable for the digester. The feed line is fed from a Konrad Pumpe BIG-Mix hopper.
The PreMix also separates the debris usually found in farmyard manures from clamps, which protects the machinery and pipework from being damaged.
