Food scraps clogging the sink siphon or wet wipes causing the toilet to overflow: We all know how expensive and time-consuming problems caused by foreign objects can be. So it's no surprise that efficient foreign debris management also plays an important role in industry, wastewater technology and biogas plants. This is the only way to prevent damage or blockages to downstream elements in the long term.
But what different systems can used for the separation and disposal of foreign bodies and how does the removal of heavy material work? We take a closer look and present modern solutions from Vogelsang for biogas plants.
Biogas plants produce sustainable energy. In order for this energy production to run as efficiently as possible, it is important that the whole process runs smoothly. Reliable debris management is very important for this. These are systems that remove and dispose of separated heavy material such as stones and metal. Furthermore, it is important that the upstream separation process functions reliably and that all foreign matter is separated out and that as little of the medium as possible, such as slurry or suspension, escapes and is lost when it is removed from the system.
The downstream components such as pumps and systems for treatment in biogas plants are sustainably protected from damage by the reliable separation of foreign bodies. In addition to damage, blockages can also be prevented. Both have a positive effect on overall plant efficiency. Time-consuming repairs become less frequent and malfunctions can be avoided.
Slurry and biomass are raw materials that often contain foreign bodies. Operators often find screws, nails and stones or even porcelain and stoneware in the biomass. To prevent these foreign bodies from entering your biogas plant and causing malfunctions, there are systems such as the RotaCut, which take care of heavy material separation.
Tried and tested additional components are available for subsequent simple and efficient removal and disposal.
The Debris Removal System from Vogelsang is a classic example of a system that removes heavy material during ongoing operation; manually controlled or automated. This means that no major manual effort is required, as neither the solids dosing system nor the wet cutter or separator need to be switched off and opened. This is because the heavy material is discharged with a minimum proportion of the medium and the suspension does not need to be fed in again. As a result, the workload is reduced by up to 80 percent, the processes run without interruption and costs for downtime or maintenance are saved. The Vogelsang DRS is therefore an excellent solution for users who want to optimize their debris removal efforts in the long term.
If you are wondering how all the foreign matter can be disposed of with little effort, you should take a closer look at the Debris Lift Unit. This is a supplement for the Debris Removal System, which transports the heavy material fully automatically into a collection container. This makes the disposal process more hygienic and efficient. Users can also implement this solution retrospectively at any time, thus saving additional manual and time expenditure.
There is often not enough space to reliably separate heavy material from viscous slurry or suspension with a passive stone catcher. Systems such as the DebrisCatcher, which combine gravity separation with active heavy material separation, therefore offer an optimum solution here.
Heavy material that is too small and light to be separated by gravity alone is transported with the medium to a screen. Here it is retained and caught by the slowly rotating scrapers and actively push into the separator. Stones, metal parts etc. are thus reliably removed. Thanks to their non-contact design and low speed, such systems have minimal power and space requirements.
All the following system components therefore enjoy a high level of protection against damage or blockages.
Efficient debris management makes it easy to remove and dispose of impurities. Thanks to the latest Vogelsang technology, only minimal quantities of slurry or suspension escape. You save yourself laborious manual work and protect downstream components from damage and blockages. As a result, your biogas plant can be operated without interruption, which significantly increases the overall plant efficiency and contributes to profitability.
