Save up to 25% storage with slurry separation technology

The 5 biggest advantages of slurry separation

Slurry separation offers farmers numerous operational advantages: in addition to more efficient, plant-friendly application of the liquid phase and the versatile use of the separated solids, one of the biggest advantages of using a separator is the massive savings in storage capacity.

By separating the slurry into solid and liquid components, storage capacity on the farm can be increased by up to 25%! This not only means less space is required, but also that existing resources are used more efficiently. The solid component of the slurry can be transported in a space-saving manner or stored on slabs, while the liquid phase can be pumped directly into storage in the same step. The solid phase can be profitably passed on to biogas plants and used for energy production.

How the XSplit Compact separator works

The XSplit Compact Separator from Vogelsang is a flexible system unit that has been specially developed for the requirements of agricultural businesses in terms of price and performance – it reliably and efficiently separates the solid and liquid phases of slurry.

Thanks to innovative technology, a TS content of up to 40% is possible. Depending on the medium, using the separator saves up to 25% in storage capacity and also combines various work steps.

Vogelsang slurry separation technology

The XSplit Compact system unit from Vogelsang consists of a robust, low-maintenance separator and an otion of powerful double-chamber pump for simultaneous supply and removal of slurry. The innovative pump not only saves energy, but also significantly reduces costs and maintenance, and enables slurry to be pumped further in the same work step.

The separator drive on the solids side is unique and eliminates the need for a shaft seal, reducing operating costs and maintenance. Vogelsang's QuickService concept enables quick, direct access to screens and press screws, making maintenance particularly quick and easy. The modular, three-part screen allows only the worn part to be replaced, eliminating unnecessary spare part costs.

As an independent, plug-and-play, flexible system unit, the XSplit Compact can be conveniently operated at different locations, even across different operations, such as on the farm, in various stables or at the biogas plant.

More efficient nutrient utilisation and better feed quality through the use of separated slurry

Vogelsang slurry separation technology

Separating slurry into liquid and solid components, for example with the XSplit Compact from Vogelsang, offers numerous advantages. On the one hand, separation increases storage capacity by up to 25%. The solid components are separated with a dry matter content of up to 40% and can be stored and transported in a space-saving manner.

Secondly, feed quality is improved as no solids stick to the plants when spreading the separated slurry, thus reducing feed contamination and plant burns to a minimum.

Another advantage of separated slurry is more efficient nutrient utilisation. The liquid phase can be placed directly beneath the plants using trailing shoe technology and penetrates the soil more quickly. This makes nutrients available to plants more quickly, resulting in better and healthier plant growth.

Particularly in dry conditions, mechanical separation using the XSplit Compact enables precise and clean application of the slurry components, optimising nutrient uptake by the plants and feed quality.

Practical experience with the XSplit Separator

Demonstration examples show that the use of Vogelsang's XSplit Compact separator leads to significant improvements on agricultural businesses. Dairy farms in various countries report that the situation has improved significantly since using the XSplit Compact separator. The manure is spread cleanly and efficiently under the plants without leaving any residue on the plant surface. This has noticeably increased the quality of the feed.

A recent on-farm trial in northern Germany demonstrated that separation with the XSplit Compact can reduce slurry storage requirements by up to 25%, depending on the medium, by separating the solid and liquid phases.

See the practical test in video:

In this specific case, 28 cubic metres of slurry with a dry matter content of approximately 10% was treated using the mobile XSplit Compact separation unit. The process reduced the total slurry volume by more than 20%.

The separated solid fraction – around 5–6 cubic metres – is removed from the feed stream and can instead be reused in a cost-effective way.
