The versatile advantages of the Strip Till process

Efficient tillage is essential for the healthy growth of plant crops. But what possibilities do technical approaches offer? The Strip Till process relies on strip tillage. But what does it depend on for an optimal yield and what are the benefits for the user in practice? We discuss all the details and introduce you to the Xtill by Vogelsang.

How the Strip Till process works

The Strip Till process combines the advantages of plowless tillage with those of conventional tillage. The cultivation, seedbed preparation and incorporation of slurry are all possible in one pass. This saves time and costs. To achieve this, tillage is done in strips. The slurry is brought to the plant roots below the soil surface. This is known as strip tillage, followed by injection of the slurry. The slurry is applied in a depot-like manner. Strip tillage can be performed in a split process or in one pass.

The strip-shaped structure of the Strip Till process means that it can be used primarily for row crops. Corn, sugar beets or rapeseed are prominent examples of this.

The Strip Till process offers the following advantages in practice

Cost savings

Less area worked also means lower fuel and time costs. The profitability of a business can thus be improved efficiently. In addition, targeted application can save mineral fertilizer. Therefore, minimizing losses has a significantly positive effect on profitability.

Protection against erosion and more stable soil

Particularly crucial for erosion protection in the Strip Till process is water infiltration, which is significantly increased due to the unworked areas compared to conventionally worked soils. In addition, the areas around the narrow strip of tilled soil are still very structurally stable and particularly load-bearing, which is advantageous for driving over with heavy machinery.

Efficient nutrient supply

In the Strip Till process, the slurry reaches the roots directly. There, the positive effects can unfold directly and in concentrated form. Since only part of the soil surface is worked during strip-tilling, the rest of the soil remains untouched, and the intact pore system remains in place. This allows undisturbed growth of fine and lateral roots, which are responsible for absorbing water and nutrients. Since these remain largely undamaged, nutrient uptake is particularly well guaranteed with the Strip Till process.

Improved germination conditions

Optimal germination conditions are made up of various factors. Reducing tillage can lead to better formation of fine roots, which in turn results in more efficient nutrient uptake. In addition, the seed enters the loosened soil, which can be adequately supplied with water by the unworked areas. Since much of the soil surface is not tilled, the soil remains covered with organic material, providing effective protection against surface siltation. About two-thirds of the area is covered by this vegetation blanket.

Users save time and money by combining several work steps. The slurry can be deposited at two different depths. This allows the individual needs of farmers to be taken into account. This makes the XSplit's Strip Till system suitable for a wide range of crops and soil conditions.

Exact work pays off

The Strip Till process convinces in practice with a colorful bouquet of advantages: Cost savings, improved germination conditions, efficient nutrient supply, erosion protection and more stable soils. To ensure that you also benefit from this form of combined soil cultivation and fertilization, Vogelsang offers the appropriate industrial technology in the form of XSplit .
